Using Lightwave 11, Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum over a three month period Modeled, Animated, Directed and Edited by While these influences are recognisable, the film is unique in its storytelling and its visuals manage to establish their own feel, in part due to the technology used for their creation. I was further influenced by the wire-frame 3D graphics of the old commodore 64 game 'Elite', and the slightly stilted animations and acting performances of computer game characters of the late 1990s/early 2000s. I was fascinated by the distinctly 1980s computer screens and that fascination led to the selection of light green outlines for objects against black backgrounds. What appealed to me most about those films were their conceptions of technology. I was heavily influenced by the visual styles and settings of Blade Runner and Alien. Abstraction was implemented to heighten emotion and interest, but also to make the film feel "retro". After much experimentation, I settled on modeling objects and characters in terms of their outlines. It was the aim in making Echo to do something different visually. Echo is set millions of years after Otherworlds and offers some remarkable new twists in the ongoing story. While Otherworlds reflected a fantasy environment that was slowly being altered as technology developed, Echo represents the culmination of that technology in a fully digitised cyberpunk world. As war escalates and cities are destroyed by dark forces the young woman realises that she must make a difficult decision which could cost her her one true love. Otherworlds blended sci-fi and fantasy to tell the tale of a young woman who could read the future caught within an epic struggle of good versus evil. This video presents the film's introductory scenes and a few of its major characters.Įcho is a sequel to a feature length screenplay entitled 'Otherworlds' which was written by me in 2004 but remains unpublished. This video represents the product in its current state after three months of modeling, rendering and editing and does not necessarily reflect the final version. Echo is an animated feature film currently being created.
